Schlumbergera

Indoors the Schlumbergera needs a sunny spot, but not in direct sunlight. Once a week a little water and once a month a small amount of plant food is sufficient. In the summer the Schlumbergera can easily be kept in the garden or on the balcony, but not in the full sun. At the end of the summer and before the frost, bring the plant indoors and place in a cool area with sufficient light for the winter.

To allow the plant to flower again, you need to water it sparingly (approximately 1x every 3 weeks) with a short day length of less than 10 hours. To shorten the plants access to daylight, you can trick the plant for example by placing a tea towel over it, or placing it in a dark area. It is also very important to keep the Rhipsalidopsis cold, around 12 degrees centigrade. When the plant starts to show buds, water a little more and move the plant to where it is warmer and lighter.
